Dave Sifry Lobbyconning at Web 2.0 in 2007 I attended the Connect09 event this evening and was pleased to see such an active, engaged turnout and such a well-organized event. Hardly the picture one would paint if they’d already drawn the conclusion that the tech economy in this province was dead. In speaking with an acquaintance he offered me his card, and asked for mine. I declined his..

By Mike Myatt , Chief Strategy Officer, N2growth Success is not random… CEOs need to realize that neither their success, nor their failure is a random act. CEOs also can rarely lay blame for their victories and losses on anyone other than themselves. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 1756 – 1791 This article is one in a series on creating or establishing your personal brand and becoming a leader in your industry. While creating your personal brand is not easy, the benefits speak for themselves; other professionals begin to seek you out, ask for your assistance or offer you compensation in exchange for your help, services or advice.

F or the last two weeks, I’ve been mulling this concept of market correction as it pertains to the web. There are a variety of stories that have been related, in addition to signatory bubble characteristics that I have observed for some time, but it’s all coming into a lot more focus as time has gone on. Both are incredibly popular public facing success stories with very strong brands, traveling often to make public appearances at a variety of conferences and venues. But while that’s a common trait about both marketers, that’s only the end result. It’s in the way that both Chris and Gary got there that is important.

This will be the last part of the two previous posts. Google and other search engines have turned many into product, service researchers while at the confine of their rooms or offices. Today’s customers are no longer satisfied with information provided by brand advertisers or traditional media. They really want to see things as it. They want to drag hard bargain for their valued incomes. They also need personal conviction which shows that what they are buying is the best.

I’m a fervent believer in the value of cultivating and promoting one’s personal brand . I’ve put a fair amount of thought and effort into my own personal brand and reaped considerable benefits. If you want to advance your career in some way (whether it’s move up the proverbial ladder, get a new job , break away and go freelance , change careers, etc.) you should be investing in the cultivation and promotion of your personal brand as well. But not everyone gets it. And as such, there are risks.

Image by luc legay via Flickr A couple weeks ago, I spent the majority of my Saturday at LTU. I was there to partake in a homegrown 1-day conference called Brand CampU. BCU is the brainchild of my buddy Hajj Flemings. In fact, the 2009 conference was the 2nd in a series of annual events. In truth, I had wanted to attend the ‘08 event, but I simply could not get away from previous obligations. Nonetheless, I was able to attend this year and was quite glad that I did so.

Last month I was honored to be invited to contribute to personal branding magazine published by Dan Schawbel . In my article I was sharing my experience building my personal brand which is one year old already! Here is an extract: Starting and developing your own business is tough - you never know where you’ll be successful and where you’ll fail. My business ended up being very broad - I didn’t limit myself to SEOsmarty.com. I participated in numerous other projects that generated income and gave me more exposure.

This week I’m acknowledging my ‘ Dream Team’ , the professionals that have helped me launch my personal brand on the internet in 2008-09. To fly you need a dream team! The first members of my Dream Team are Gail & Dave Watson with Extra Contact. They are a husband and wife team that specialize in Email Marketing. I met Gail at an eWomen’s networking luncheon (where she was the facilitator and leader of the Vancouver branch) and through getting to know her, she introduced me to Jane Atkinson’s book ‘ The Wealthy Speaker’ (when she found out I was interesting in being a speaker ).
