I am starting a social enterprise that provides skills-based volunteer opportunities for professionals. These busy individuals, who will volunteer their professional skills from 2-5 hours a week, on average, include marketing experts, publicists, strategy consultants, hedge fund managers and even nonprofit development staff. We recently launched our pilot program in New York City, and I find myself inspired as well as totally scared by our first, small batch of 100 professionals.

Steakhouse’s Facebook Success Utah’s Mo’ Bettah Steaks restaurant opened a second location this year only because of Facebook. “It clearly increased our business,” says the co-owner, who initially joined social media to monitor his daughter. He now uses it to promote events and menu additions: “It was like a brick hitting me.

My friend Lisa is an advocate (lawyer) in the U.K..  While she’s practicing she has to wear not only long black robes, but also a white, pigtailed wig.  Apparently this is quite impressive in Scotland.  It also serves to make her and her identically clad fellow lawyers seem more anonymous, thereby partially protecting their identities from potentially disgruntled clients or defendants.

When you hear the term “ internet marketing “, what do you think of? For many, that term conjures thoughts of websites or spamming or search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. For others, it’s all about graphical design, writing fancy code or even affiliate programs. All of those answers correct, but the essence of internet marketing is much simpler.

I’ve heard a lot about Gary Vaynerchuk. He is well known and widely lauded for his approach to personal branding for business owners. He “leveraged social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook to promote Wine Library TV,” a video blog about wine. He’s hob nobbed with Meredith and Ann on the Today Show, shared wine with Ellen and Conan and been featured on Nightline, among other appearances. So, when I was invited to participate in launching his book, I was happy to join in.

My job at Mass.Gov, as manager of the Massachusetts Recovery website, ended on September 30. I have hesitated to blog about it here for two reasons: 1) I do not want to “burn any bridges,” by writing negatively about an experience that did not work out for me and 2) I need to honor the standard contractor confidentiality agreement I was asked to sign before I was told my contract would not be renewed. The job was not a good fit.

A couple weeks ago I was at a small gathering of senior-level women, sharing professional experiences in a cozy living room over wine and snacks. I mentioned that I was teaching a two-hour workshop on Twitter for business. The response from one woman was not uncommon. “Two hours? On Twitter?” The class was last week, and the questions, dialogue and strategic planning that went on in that room spilled well past the two hour mark. And we still hardly hit the tip of the Twitterberg.

I began personal blogging more than a year ago.  For the first 8 months I was religious about posting, pumping out quality articles three to four times a week. Now I’m lucky if I put out two a month. Sandshack.org is a new website we just launched with three blogs focused on various ocean conservation issues - These blogs are where I will be spending more of my time in the upcoming months - The ROI potential is much greater than on my personal blog.

To blog or not to blog? To Tweet or not to Tweet? To Facebook or not to Facebook? Beyond the research that you should be doing on whether incorporating these marketing tactics into your social media plan is wise, you should also think about who’s managing those accounts, and how they’re being managed. Why? Think about it. Who’s actually building the relationships? Your employees are making the personal connections in these social media communities.

A T-shirt (or tee shirt) is a shirt, which is pulled on over the head to cover most of a person’s torso. A T-shirt is usually a buttonless, collarless, and pocketless, with a round neck and short sleeve. T-shirts are typically made of cotton or polyester fibers (or a mix of the two). T-shirts can be decorated with text and/or pictures, and are sometimes used to advertise. T-shirts are designed for men and women, and for all age groups, including baby, youth, and adult sizes.
