Mylatch , Indiana based start-up, leverages social media tools to custom design career sites for employers to help attract, engage, evaluate and hire Generation Y professionals. Generation Y has arrived at work. They carry their social networks to work and visit their Facebook pages several times a day and collaborate to get their work done. Open source culture that lets them express their minds, challenge status quo, and one that rewards out-of-the-box thinking has motivated them.

by Ellie Gant As usual, the Wow Green compensation plan shows that the same old ideas are just plain too profitable to disappear. Just like the programs you might recall from the 1970’s, the plan is all about talking other people into selling what you’re selling. That’s right: the Wow Green compensation plan is about creating your own competition, and making your job even more difficult. Let’s not ask why exactly you would want to do that; let’s ask, instead, the underlying question: why does the Wow Green compensation plan want you to do that? It’s not hard to understand why.

Crush It!: Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion by Gary Vaynerchuk is for sure written by a motivational speaker; however, it was also written by a phenomenally-successful self-made businessman and social media maven. Rare is the motivational business book with an actual flight plan and pre-flight check list. The book was written by dictation, is very spoken-word and accessible, and ends up mixing cocksuredness with earnestness in such a way that is very appealing.

Jeremy Schoemaker. Gary Vaynerchuk. Zac Johnson. All names you know or should know if you read this magazine. But have you ever thought about why? The reason you know their names is that these marketing mavens have taken the time to build and maintain a personal brand. You know them because they want you to know them. They work at it. They invest in it. They view building their personal brand as an integral part of their business endeavors. Personal brands are powerful.

Can I have a minute of your time? Describe yourself in two words. I know I could spend hours coming up with combinations, but when someone asked me recently in an interview to describe myself in two words, this was my off-the-cuff response: It’s not one of those “this is what you’re supposed to say in an interview” responses, which I imagine would be something like “hard worker” or “team player.” But it’s honest, and it’s true to my personal brand - which is true to who I am.

This post is part of the Friday Q&A section. Just use the contact form if you want to submit a question. Satish asks: Do you think using your real name/surname in your Twitter ID (or any other online profit) is good, or using your company/website name is preferred? Good question, and one that I have considered in the past already. As usual the answer is “it depends on the situation.” More specifically, it depends on your business model and strategy.

Start being thoroughly unpleasant in the workplace and max out your salary by bulldozing through your teams and climbing over the bodies of your colleagues?Well apparently it all depends upon your personality type — are you open to experience, conscientious, extrovert, agreeable or neurotic?
