How much of our time as small business owners is spent going through the motions rather than setting ourselves a purposeful path and following it. I have been doing some research in this area and I believe the process starts with knowing ourselves and then purposely creating the desired outcomes for our business, family and ourselves by having a personal mission statement. Whether you are in an organisation and developing your career or you are the leader of your own professional services practice, one thing you can be sure about…. …. at some stage in the next 12 months you are likely to be asked to present yourself on paper. That could be for a proposal you are submitting, a job you are applying for or a profile you have to present as a speaker at a conference.

The rules of the job search have changed considerably in recent years. It’s not enough to be the most qualified candidate for the job. Successful job candidates understand that in addition to “having the goods,” they need to know their “buyer,” and how to sell to them. Think it sounds crass to compare a job candidate’s skills and experience to consumer goods? It isn’t. Rather, it accurately reflects the reality of the current job market.Positioning Yourself to Get Noticed in a Crowded Job MarketThe current job market is far more favorable for employers than it is for the average job hunter.

What first impression do you think people are getting of your virtual personal brand in the digital world? Are they seeing it as a welcoming open shop door full of interesting potential, or a dull, indistinct and boring business?Getting your digital front door right isn’t very hard, but it’s amazing how many people forget the rules of introducing themselves to the outside digital world.

Whether you are a freelancer, a business owner, or a corporate professional, you have the ability to become a powerful commodity. You are what sells your services, gets you hired, and enables you to develop valuable relationships. You are what makes your business and your name recognizable and sought-after. You are a brand. You may have created a business named after yourself, solidifying the unity between you and your business. You may do business under a different business name, or you may be working for an employer.

This is a guest post by Chris Perry, founder of Career Rocketeer, the Career Search and Personal Branding Blog.It has always been said that you should not judge a book by its cover. Appearance isn’t everything, or at least, it shouldn’t be. In your career search and development, the substance of your personal brand and the promise of the unique and differentiating value you consistently deliver in any given situation are inevitably most important. by Ellie Grant When you market Wow Green online, it seems like a pretty sweet deal. You can just throw a few ads up on your web site, send a couple emails, and the orders roll in. You make a bunch of money, and it doesn’t take any time or effort. It’s almost like a license to print money, really. When you start your own Wow Green business, you’ll get to sell these cleaners yourself. You can put their products on your web site, and collect a percentage whenever someone orders them.
