It was a good week wasn’t it? Got alot of work done and accomplished alot, but always alot left to do, right? Looking forward to the weekend? Well, It’s official- Social Media is For Narcissists . That’s according to a study called The Narcissism Epidemic: Living in the Age of Entitlement produced by San Diego State University and Youth Pulse. As far as I can tell, the study is some sort of knock on Genreation Y being self-centered. What about Generation X? I was so self-centered as a youth that I wanted my own label: I was too cool for “X.” Then again, I thought Generation Y was too cool for social networking sites .

For the second time this year , Cameron and I have presented to a classroom of students at the Art Institute of Atlanta . We are invited by our friend Larry Stultz , Department Chair at the Institute, to discuss real world implementation of Social Media Marketing. As much as we are able to provide information to the students during these discussions (btw, we always have the group re-arrange the furniture into a circle so that we are discussing, not presenting), we are able to get back just as much feedback on what is working for this particular demographic.

Social networking is not about sales, it’s not about self-promotion and sales. Yes, people are making money via social media marketing, but the reason these people are as successful as they are and can make money through social networks is that they do not DIRECTLY try to make sales or promote themselves and their products. They promote THEMSELVES, in moderation. They have built a personal brand for themselves. I watched a video interview of Katie Freiling at Entrepreneurs-Journey.com today and ended up in Katie’s blog .

My good friend Gary Vaynerchuk ’s new book “Why Now Is A Good Time To Crush It! And Cash In On Your Passion” , also called “CRUSH IT!”, is set to ship on October 13th. The new Web site for the book includes a sample chapter which gives a pretty good glimpse into the style and message of the book itself. In other words, it is dripping with Gary Vee.

CONTEXT : Yesterday, Dan Schawbel , author of Me 2.0 . ran a seminar on Personal Branding, to help people who are looking for jobs create a more compelling online presence for themselves. Schawbel is an impressive young man who, as an even younger man, was inspired by the August 1997 Tide-brite cover of Fast Company magazine featuring “ The Brand Called You ” by Tom Peters. Now, Schawbel dominates the Google results for “ Personal Branding ,” appearing even above that same Peters

Up until this point in time, if one wanted to work in the Information Technology sector, the usual path was to gain a computer science degree and deeply develop and aptitude in topics such coding or systems architecture or network architecture. According to a new Gartner report, however, that is going to change. Their take is that the new talents required “will blend business, artistic and technical skills.” Certainly if you look at emerging areas such as video, 3d design, etc., artistic skills are high on the list.

As a writer, I make one dangerous assumption before I put my feet on the floor every morning – that I’m like just about everybody else in the world. I’m amazing, I’m sensational, I’m spectacular and everything that happens to me is likewise amazing, sensational and spectacular! Following from that, and this is crucial, it is very important for me that you know how amazing, sensational and spectacular I am. My Facebook status is witty, prompting scads of people to “ like this ”; my incessant tweets reveal how truly stunning my every move is (i.e.

I have posted previously about public and professional speaking and this week I was training a group of young professionals in the art of presentation skills. Starting with a resume is really starting in the middle of the process. There’s an alternative place to begin - with a self-assessment. Power of Self-Assessment: What’s YOUR Story?
