How does the Internet see you? That is the question that Personas , a project at MIT, asks. It’s a kind of Doppler Radar for your Web presence. Here’s what my Personas looks like. It leaves me wondering… what’s so “illegal” about me? I don’t think there’s anything you can decipher or definitively pull from the Personas analysis. But it is a great way to take an alternate look at your personal brand on the World Wide Web.

Andy Warhol got it slightly wrong. He should’ve said “In the future, everyone will have 15 items with their own personal brand”: Yes, the Nelson Mandela car air freshener is real, smells like cookies and is available online for a paltry US$2.99.

At a time where a good number of folks have been validly questioning the future of blogging as we know it , and perhaps venture into what that future may hold for such an important aspect of social computing as the Act of Blogging itself , both Internet and Corporate Blogging, or at a time where most of the knowledge workers out there are starting to move into social networking sites a la Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. etc.

That’s how long I waited to see my sack of shit primary care physician . He showed up with a smug excuse, but I noticed he had time to see a pharma rep while I languished in a consult room. I fired his ass in no uncertain terms. Maybe 75 minutes is average to see a dumb as a stump general practitioner, but as long as urgent cares stand waiting for business, I’ll not put up with this crap. I’m exacting my own personal brand of health care reform, so watch out. All I need is a warm body to write me a scrip.

Many of you who know me and know my story have heard that I’ve been exploring and engaging in social media for just over a year now after entering as a skeptic. It was around that time that I became intrigued and then submerged myself in learning about how social media could help me to make my dream of helping wineries and small businesses become a reality. Originally, I thought that traditional public relations and marketing services would be my core offerings. But now, my business has evolved. I find that I’m being sought out to help my clients with humanizing their brands and social media mentoring.

August 24, 2009 (RALEIGH, NC) – There are all sorts of reasons why people join Facebook, arguably the most popular “social media” source out there: to keep up with current friends and locate old ones; to make business contacts and open doors; to “network” from your desk and raise your visibility; to develop a personal brand, target a niche, get access to no-cost marketing; and so on. Now there’s another reason: To get deep discounts on hair care services.

A study recently released by CareerBuilder.com has plainly laid it out for job seekers – as much as 45% of hiring companies will seek out information on candidates from social networking sites. This should be a warning for all of us. It’s hard to remove pictures and text from the web once it is there. As a member of the professional community you need to be careful what you put up online. There are a lot of things that we would share with our friends but wouldn’t share with an employer and it should be thought of that way when online.

It’s back to school time for kids of all ages. Guess what? That includes me. Today, I started school again, taking prereqs so that next academic year, I’ll be able to start my Master’s program. I was the dorky kid that liked school, but nowadays that’s okay. As the Knowledge Economy becomes more prevalent, education becomes more crucial. Indeed, in any market where there’s competition, education can give you an edge. So, today I’m taking a step to make myself more competitive in the marketplace.

Twitter has been getting a lot of media attention recently, but the reality is that Twitter can be a useful tool in real estate marketing. Most often I use Twitter to send out shot notes about property activity, primarily price changes and open houses. It is a great way for me to draw some attention to my website as well as make those who follow me aware of the trends and activity I see in the local Cincinnati real estate market.

Last week, a reporter asked me for a few celebrity PR contacts in order to interview the celebrities for a story. Always willing to help colleagues gain placements for their clients, I was eager to pass along a few of my contacts to the reporter. The reporter was seeking the PR contacts for a few A-list music artists and entertainers. When I followed up with the reporter to see if the leads were helpful, she informed me that she had run into a few dead ends. She reached out to one of the label

I have recently been re-reading Philip Farkas & His Horn: A Happy and Worthwhile Life by Nancy Jordan Fako . One thing in this book I found especially interesting in trying to understand Farkas the man better was his background in advertising and marketing, a field which he left orchestral playing to work in full time in 1947. His orchestral career was impressive, playing Principal Horn in Kansas City, Chicago, Cleveland, Boston, Cleveland again, and finally Chicago again.

This post originally appeared on January 12, 2009 My wife is a HUGE fan of Home and Garden Television(HGTV) . She can sit for hours watching shows about decorating, and color, and buying a house in the Carribean (?). She has no need for the remote if the TV’s set on her favorite channel. She’s even gotten me interested in some of the shows (especially the Carribean one).

Since writing the first post in this series I read a great article on A List Apart that spoke volumes to me about the process I am embarking on and documenting here. If you do not read alistapart.com I suggest you check it out. To summarize–I am not so much “ redesigning ” berchman.com as I am “ realigning ” berchman.com. I am reviewing the goals and purpose of this website and ‘ realigning ‘ content and design to help achieve those goals.
