By Carole Martin If you have been reading articles or listening to news reports about the job market, you are aware that you are in a tough job market and that you will have to do something to make yourself stand out from the rest of the crowd. You realize that you are competing against the odds. The question is, “How can you make yourself stand out when there are so many other candidates looking at the same job?” The answer is to “BRAND YOURSELF.” What this means is you have to discover WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE.

What is a Mommy Blogger? Am I one? Do I want to be one? These thoughts have been racing through my head as I have read various media reports and blog posts leading up to and following BlogHer 09. When a lot of bloggers I know see the mainstream media talking about mommy bloggers, they want to scream or do scream: “BUT THAT IS NOT US!” . Some react by rejecting the term and saying that they are not a mommy blogger and others see a need to correct misinformation, to remove the negative connotations, and to reclaim the label .

Today, 13 August, is the anniversary of the day Mickey Mantle died. That got me thinking about what this sport legend’s brand is, and how we can all take some personal branding lessons from this baseball great. Mantle, although dead for over a decade, still holds the records for the most World Series home runs (18), RBIs (40), runs (42), walks (43), extra-base hits (26), and total bases(123). WOW! That’s some record! So, taking a page out of Mickey’s playbook, how are your hitting home runs for your personal brand? Do You Have a World Series Personal Brand? 1.

Each week, the members of Powered’s marketing, business development and product teams pick a news article, blog post or research report that “speaks” to them. With that article, they need to come to our weekly staff meeting prepared to give a 120 second update on what the article was about and why they found it useful.

by C.G. Lynch January 12, 2009 — As the economy falls deeper into recession, many people have turned to LinkedIn , the social network for professionals, to job hunt and connect with contacts who might help them land a new gig. But career experts say your LinkedIn job-hunting efforts will all be for naught if you don’t build your profile page properly and ensure that it is search-friendly for potential employers and recruiters.

tweetmeme_url=’http://kenrickchatman.com/resume-for-leaders-that-gets-results/’; tweetmeme_style = ‘normal’;tweetmeme_source = ‘career_catalyst’; I have read and heard stories of several job seekers applying to hundreds or thousands of job postings with either no or minimal response. Early in my job search I applied blindly (which I do not recommend) to suitable positions where I met at [...]

Today is sort of a rant. Sometimes I just can’t take it anymore and I have to let off some steam. Because I spend a stupid amount of time on the internet, combine that with some Adult A.D.D. (loss of focus) and I see things on the internet that I consider downright stupid. I’m no genius either, if I were, I’d have figured out how to blog from the beaches on the French Riviera. As it is, I’m sitting here in my office at home no where near as successful as those I’m getting ready to rant about.

On the June income report post, a few people ask me how to sell direct ads and find advertisers. I been a bit busy with so much other stuff, so I am finally writing this post 2 months later. It is always better to be late than never at all. So I just want to say sorry I am late with this post. I am sure it will help those whom asked about it. How To Sell Direct Ads There is 3 types of direct ads to sell. Text, Banner, and Paid Posts/Reviews. Knowing the prices you going to charge is very important.

By Nathan Hangen , follow him @nhangen . I know, it sounds strange in theory. But think about it like this: you spend a lot of time building a network on Twitter, engaging with your followers, and creating powerful partnerships, but what would happen if this single asset went belly up? You don’t put all of your cash into a single stock, so why should you invest all of your social capital in a single service? Don’t get me wrong, I like Twitter, but I want to be prepared in the event that something kills my favorite social tool.

One of the great features of LinkedIn is the recommendations feature, whereby you can share recommendations for your connections, and they can write about how fantastic you are in return. The limitation of the feature is that they have to write the recommendation and submit it in LinkedIn. This adds credibility to the information, as it must come from a third party, but restricts what sort of references and testimonials you can add.

I’ve written a short article about office organizing that appears on page 25 of the August 2009 issue of Personal Branding Magazine . (You can check out a free sample of the magazine online.) Since we talk about office organizing quite a bit on Unclutterer, I thought it might be fun to instead let the magazine’s editor, Dan Schawbel, talk to us about a topic he knows in great detail and one that we rarely discuss on the site — personal branding.

It’s always funny when people think I’m so cock-sure (ha!) that I never need reassurance. It means my Personal Brand is doing what it’s supposed to. Unfortunately, no man is an island – not even me. I get plenty of encouragement and positive reinforcement: I’ve got Guile (old friend), Mary (best friend), Chief (running buddy, soon-to-be motorcycle buddy), Ryan Jones (long-distance friend, who I owe a visit) and others who I think the world of and I prop myself up on them when I’m feeling tired, insecure or wobble in my resolve to live the life I have dedicated this blog to.

“Who’s Paul Silverman?” The sudden death two days ago of my former partner Paul Silverman, 69, inspired a number of conversations around the office about life and careers. Paul was unarguably one of advertising’s best copywriters, a brilliant strategist, and someone who helped put Mullen on the map. “Get me Paul Silverman?” In his time crafting ads, winning awards and helping grow an agency, Paul was pretty well known. He didn’t really work at it, but certainly enjoyed the recognition.
