Social media is my job. I manage this blog. I send out the tweets for @compassion. I create the photo sets in Flickr, upload videos to YouTube, update our Facebook status, etc. I have a good job. I like it a lot. I don’t want to do anything else. My fellow webbies are great peeps. Lots of fun. And I love seeing and being a part of the conversations you have with one another. But amid all that I can still be a bit jaded at times.

Given the recent coverage of a 15-year old at Morgan Stanley who wrote a report about why teens aren’t using Twitter and the numerous reactions , we thought that we’d jump on the bandwagon and get the perspective of Redfin’s youngest employee, Edward Chang, on the matter. A couple of weeks before starting my marketing internship at Redfin, I emailed my boss-to-be Matt Goyer to ask if there was any reading I should do before I started.

by Jason Miletsky The hype over personal branding has gotten way out of control. I think we’re approaching cult status – and not the positive “Clockwork Orange” kind, where it becomes beloved by a surprising number of people over a long period of time. No, I mean ‘cult status’ in the creepy Tom Cruise/Scientology way.

We’re living in a social media world, and, like it or not, our avatar is often the first impression others get about us as we interact virtually on social networks, blogs, microblogs and other online communities. Our avatars are a representation of our brands — our personal brand or our company’s or organization’s brand. But how many of us are thinking strategically about our avatars? Here are six tip for better branding using avatars. 1. Define your brand.

Use Negative Lessons to Build a Positive Brand Foundation While I didn’t realize it at the time, I started building my personal brand in the fourth grade when I took a job working as a handyman and house-cleaner for a lady from a wealthy neighborhood on the other side of the tracks, who I will call Norma. My employee-boss relationship with Norma was by no means an easy one. This crotchety, high-society, Miss Havisham-esque woman was extremely demanding and could become physically violent if her every whim was not fulfilled.

I have been so pissed off at social media lately. Every social media outlet eventually becomes a cesspool of advertisements and get-rich-quick schemes. Why do humans always make an effort to destroy good things? Twitter needs help, or it will die quickly. Tomorrow, I will post my grievances toward Facebook and Twitter. But for those of you who actually care about social media and don’t intend on abusing it, here are some tips to help bring value to your social media contributions.

Getting better at things just doesn’t happen. Being a better surfer not only takes practice, it takes a commitment to learning. To be a better chess player, you have to study the game. To be better at sales you have grow your business acumen. Learning takes an open mind. It takes commitment and it takes humility. When we are good at something or do it for awhile, it’s easy to stop learning. There is a cost if we allow this to happen. To keep learning: Be paranoid, expect that at any moment someone is looking to take your place.

Personal branding isn’t doing so well these days with the thought leaders. The approach seems to have run its course as an effective method of separating yourself from the crowd and is now becoming the weapon of choice for the HR consultants and college counselors (Not exactly cutting edge people). Proponents of the personal branding scene suggest that it will become an essential part of the recruitment/grooming process. In order to get great jobs (and then maintain them) you need to have a fantastic personal brand.

by Chris Allison of neboweb ( @neboweb ) As Twitter continues to define its niche, many companies are hiring individuals for the sole purpose of being the brand’s face on Twitter. For companies with a bigger grasp of the online scene, these individuals often do much more than just Tweet, but being the brand’s bird is still a crucial part of the job. Since being a professional micro-blogger is a new experience for most people starting the position, I thought it would be helpful to offer some advice based off of my experiences.

career coaching for medical sales, sales, sales management, and marketing As a medical sales recruiter, I spend a lot of time on the phone fielding inquiries from job seekers. Not only about specific jobs in medical sales, laboratory sales, imaging sales, biotech sales, clinical diagnostics sales, pathology sales, medical device sales, hospital equipment sales, pharmaceutical sales, or other areas of healthcare sales, but also about career coaching : How does it work? How can it help me?

For any business to flourish the management needs to be innovative and creative. As a manager find an excellent role model, either an individual or a company. Establish what makes them successful and then emulate their mode of operation to your small business depending on your needs. As you emulate avoid pursuing courses of action that are of no value to you or your business. Absorb only that which is essential to running of your business operations.

My Dad called it; “lying through omission”. It’s when you intentionally leave out information someone needs to make a completely informed decision. It’s many peoples way of skirting an issue without saying they lied. But it is lying. If you are a software salesperson and you know a new version of your software is coming out in 3 months and if your customer buys today they will have to pay to upgrade in 90 days, leaving that information out is lying through omission.

Purpose, truth and action are three basic elements of a brand story. Beyond brands, these are three fundamentals of a personal story, too. So as our teams at Stinson Brand Innovation are working on several new N-of-8 ® brand story development projects these days, it’s also a good time to analyze our own stories. Let’s take a close look at these three elements: Purpose is the thing in your life you will fight for. It is the ground you will defend at any cost.
