Love…don’t be shy …was the fragrance I thought I preferred when I smelled it on each of my two previous trips to Vegas (the only access I have to Kilian fragrances.) It didn’t surprise me that I loved it again. I generally give fragrance several tries before I commit, because I find that sometimes they are scrubbers on me, when I had thought they were not. Love…don’t be shy is another play on words. If you wish to find or experience love, you have to put yourself out there. Don’t be shy.

July 15th, 2009 Goto commentsLeave a comment Today marks exactly one year since I joined Ford Motor Company to head up social media efforts. You’d be surprised at how much has happened in such a short period of time. The last year has marked some of the most turbulent not only in our economy overall, but in the entire history of the global automotive market. Since last December alone, we’ve witnessed bankruptcies filed, quarterly and annual losses not seen in decades (if ever), and emergency government support of some of our most iconic brands. And I decided to move my family to Michigan just before it all began.

Seeking suitable mates require much of the same efforts required to brand and market a consumer product. A product is only as good as its CONTENT, perceived QUALITY in the marketplace that stands out amongst the rest of the competition. If your particular personal brand continues to sit on the shelf gathering dust, or constantly returned to the “store” for refund or exchange, TIME TO MAKE A CHANGE in the formula….or you will EXPIRE and be taken off the market without ringing up one final sale.
Brand & Reputation are not Synonymousinesstadlmayr.wordpress.com

Social media experts with huge personal brands and followers number in the tens of thousands may be well recognized, but often don’t have the reputation to match. For example, when large social media pitches come up with substantial companies, these people don’t get invited to the RFP process. Instead, people with strong reputations for delivering results get invited. A great example of this is Jane Quigley, relationship director at crayon, a respected communicator with a fantastic reputation in the business.

I asked some fellow designers, developers, and freelancers to show off their furry office mates and got a great response! :) This post is in dedication to my furry little man Cthulhu , who is now taking the big cat nap in the sky. He was the greatest cat on the planet, a loving and hilarious office mate.

There can be several compelling reasons why one needs to work on their personal brand equity including: A feel of who you are: Similar to a company’s brand, it gives people a feel of who you are. Personal branding , as Pamela wrote earlier this week, is somewhat inescapable in the days of social media and working online. It really is just a fancy “Web 2.0? term for being aware of, shaping and monitoring your online reputation. And for us web workers, whether we like it or not, our online reputations are often crucial to our abilities to do business and advance our careers. The thing I personally wrestle with the most about my own personal branding is finding the balance between being transparent and yet protecting my professional reputation and marketability.

Every week, NETSHARE hosts Ask the Coach , a phone-in coaching session with leading career management experts. Here is a post contributed by this week’s coach Cindy Kraft , The CFO Coach .     Many of the questions in this week’s “Ask the Coach” call revolved around the frustrations that result from engaging in the “posted position” job search game. It can’t be helped … too few postings (and fewer that are “real”) and far too many candidates (qualified and unqualified) for every position.

Over the July 12th weekend, Parade Magazine ran an article about personal branding. They gave a pretty good overview of the topic, highlighting what you need to do in order to brand yourself, such as: Define who you are (and who you aren’t) Become well known for one thing Communicate your brand Create a signature look Leave a personal mark behind Create a distinctive and unforgettable business card Hmmm. A lot was squeezed into the small space of their article.

I read a great article about branding on Chris Brogan’s blog the other day which emphasized that branding is not just about how you market your brand, product or service, but also about how you distribute it. Very successful product/brands have established successful channels of distribution for those products/brands. Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, social media sites in general are channels of distribution for your messages. Ways that you, your brand or product can connect directly with your audience.

Hipster runoff is one of those blogs that are not art related, but he plays off of art, things that are “indy” and the “personal brand” so much, it just seems like something I should link from here. Technically speaking it is a blog about music, but he pretends to be a design student (for now) in New York and finds things that are “culturally relevant” to talk about. It seems dumb at first, but he is so smart with some of his references and finding the craziest hipsters on the internet to talk about, it’s hard to deny its relevancy to today’s art student.
