237 Reasons to read AOC2: Day 9, Quote 195 - Paul Herbert
AOC2 Author: Paul Hebert - www.incentive-intelligence.typepad.com
“There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things.” — Niccolò Machiavelli
Paul draws upon Machiavelli’s writing in a chapter entitled ‘The Age of Conversation — Wisdom from the 16th Century‘ to illustrate that to introduce new ideas such as ‘conversation as an action’ to a company, you have to overcome incredulity, because nobody believes anything new until they can see a track record of results. Paul’s advice is to start with small, measured and well documented steps, reduce the risk of adoption with trials and tests, and include the things that go wrong. This ensures that you have credible and authentic data with which to convince the powers-that-be, and show them that you have anticipated and reduced the risks, and can see where the pitfalls are.
