237 Reasons to read AOC2: Day 1, Quote 33 - Sheila Scarborough

January 1st, 2009

I am one of 237 authors who contributed to the book ‘Age of Conversation 2‘ which is available as an ebook, paperback or hardback, with all proceeds to Variety, the childrens’ charity. For the first 237 days of 2009, I’ll be highlighting a phrase from one of the authors, briefly discussing their contribution, and linking you to their blog or online presence. I’m positive you’ll find the excerpts reason enough to add the full publication to your bookshelf.

AOC2 Author: Sheila Scarborough - www.sheilascarborough.com

“People don’t want to be hammered by our enthusiasm for every social media tool. Just when newbies are persuaded to consider looking into blogs, we shove everything else at them: Twitter! StumbleUpon! Del.icio.us! LinkedIn! Flickr! Isn’t this fun? No, it is not fun; it is a headache-inducing pile of digital screeching.”

Sheila’s point is that social media takes time to learn, and those who preach about its benefits need to be better teachers in order to persuade and educate the rest of the world who may not have heard of the word ‘blog’.
